2. Claude Code is steganographically marking requests (902 pts)

This one blew up. A security researcher inspecting Claude Code v2.1.196 found that the binary contains a function that silently modifies the system prompt based on your API base URL and timezone.

The mechanism: Claude Code normally inserts “Today’s date is 2026-06-30” into its system prompt. But it can silently swap the apostrophe style and date separator (from - to /) — creating a fingerprint that varies based on whether you’re hitting a Chinese endpoint (Asia/Shanghai or Asia/Urumqi timezone) or a known proxy domain.

The function checks your hostname against a list of known domains and your timezone, then subtly alters the prompt text. The problem: these “remote attestation” services aren’t just security features.
